Relief was distributed to the people of Pokhara facing hardships through the Sanjeevani Sisters Association in Pokhara on the 20th Baisakh 2079. The association, with support from the Buddhist Community Center UK London Branch, provided aid to Pokhara during the challenging times created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amidst the coronavirus outbreak, the most affected were the economically disadvantaged, visually impaired, differently-abled, and chronically ill patients. The BCCI UK London Branch extended assistance, including food supplies, to 86 families in Ward No. 27 of Pokhara Metropolitan City. Moreover, cash relief of Rs. 290,000 was disbursed among two long-term patients. Amid the global crisis, BCCI UK London Branch and Sanjeevani Sisters Association in London, UK, actively supported distressed individuals, setting an example of commendable aid.
During a morning program in Ward No. 27 Rithepani, 64 vulnerable families, comprising squatters, disabled individuals, pregnant women, and senior citizens, were provided with essential food items. Relief was distributed by Star Club President Vishnu Gurung. Additionally, two individuals, Yama Bahadur Gurung suffering from kidney issues and Kumari Bik fighting cancer, received Rs. 10,000 each.
Bina Gurung, President of Sanjeevani Sisters Association, introduced the organization and acknowledged the BCCI UK London Branch's support and collaboration with donors. Relief distribution targeted the most affected groups during the lockdown. Gratitude was expressed to Ward Chairman Purnakumar Gurung, Rising Star Club President Vishnu Gurung, social worker Mona Gurung, and UK-based supporters for their pivotal roles in Rithepani.
The event was moderated by Kaushila Gurung, Secretary of the association , and witnessed the presence of Kamala Gurung, the organization's Hong Kong Convener, Treasurer Laxmi Gurung, and members Dil Maya Prajapati, Milan Thapa, and Bimala Shrestha.
Similarly, in Pokhara's New Road Ward 9, the association assisted 22 families, including 15 visually impaired and 7 destitute households. Gita Nepali, Ward 9's representative, participated in the program.
Gamarsingh Ghale, President of BCCI London, highlighted the collective efforts initiated by Istamitra and friends under the guidance of BCCI UK London Branch's head, social activist Last Gurung. An amount of Rs. 229,000 was raised and forwarded to the association to aid those in extreme distress. Gurung emphasized the continuous support of London and pledged solidarity in every joy and sorrow.
